The playground

Merziger Brauhaus has converted part of its beer garden into a paradise for parents and children.

We have all been there: Visiting a beer garden with small children will often be anything but relaxing. The kids don't want to sit still, but the playground is often far away, right at the edge of the beer garden. Many families therefore need to split up when they visit a beer garden, taking all the fun out of it. A nuisance that the Merziger Brewery is now actively trying to remedy by opening its "Saarland-style family beer garden".

Manager Michael Frommholz: "We have converted the most beautiful part of our beer garden for families so that they can spend a pleasurable and relaxed day with us". The family beer garden was opened at the Easter weekend of 2011.

In cooperation with the tree nursery Leick from Ballern, those responsible at the Merziger Brauhauses have created a child-friendly area that also caters to the wishes of the parents. The family beer garden is located right in the middle of the original beer garden with a direct view of the marina. To prevent our little guests from going astray, the entire area has been enclosed by a wooden fence. Amidst the beer tables are numerous playground facilities, including a little house to climb up to with a slide, a double swing, spring-mounted seesaws, children's benches and a generously sized sandbox.

The facility is designed for parents with children aged one to six. "Fun and excitement for the kids and relaxed "beering" and dining for the parents. That is our idea", explains Mr Frommholz. And an adequate number of shady spots is also provided. Thanks to the dense tree population and many parasols, parents can also be carefree in this regard.
